The short version: we use information to run AfgChat and keep it safe. We do not sell personal data. Live audio passes through LiveKit and is not recorded by AfgChat. The “Delete my account” button records your request and signs you out. To have your account removed, write to salaam@afgchat.com.
We use your email address and sign-in details to create and secure your account; your display name, chosen city and languages, and profile details to show your profile; and information about the rooms you create and join to run the service. We also process messages, direct messages, room memberships, live-stage participation, notifications, room mutes, follows, blocks, reactions, saved messages, reports, room rules, invitations and moderation actions to provide chat and keep rooms safe. You can join as a guest with a name. Profiles have no image upload, and we do not collect device failure reports.Our spam protection stores IP addresses in its post guard to limit abusive posting. These addresses are kept until they are cleared; there is no automatic 30-day deletion today. We also store IP addresses to limit requests to join live audio. Records older than an hour are cleared from time to time, and some may stay longer. The waitlist request limit also uses IP addresses, held in memory. We use the country derived from an IP address to show a country flag by a person’s name in a room. Members can turn this off with the “Show my city” switch in Settings. That choice is saved on that device only. Visitors who are not signed in have no switch, and their country is shown. Visitors are counted on the public map by country unless they turn off “Show my city”, in which case they are counted without a country, or turn on “Hide online status”, in which case they are not counted. We do not show a precise location.Vercel hosts the site and runs its functions in Washington, United States. Vercel Analytics measures page visits and does not use cookies. Supabase stores account and app data in Frankfurt, Germany. LiveKit carries live audio, which may pass through LiveKit servers outside the European Union. Zoho handles email in a United States data centre. Google provides sign-in. AfgChat does not record live audio.Public room messages and room details can be read by anyone, including signed-out visitors. Private room messages and the member list are visible only to members and room staff. Room memberships, follows and reactions are visible as part of the relevant room or profile. Your blocks and saved messages are private to your account. Direct messages are visible to their participants. Room staff can see reports about their rooms and the reported message with its surrounding context, not your direct messages. Country flags are visible as described above.Browser storage keeps settings, joined rooms, messages and what is open on this device. It also keeps a counter for install-prompt visits. We use browser storage or cookies needed for sign-in and to remember your language. Vercel Analytics does not use cookies, so we do not show a cookie banner. We do not sell personal data, use conversation content for advertising, or share it with data brokers.We use information to provide the service you ask for, protect people and rooms, and meet legal obligations that apply to us. Depending on the law where you live, you may be able to ask to access, correct, delete, or receive your information, or to object to or limit some uses.
